My Associates of Applied Sciences Degree in CAD required a final project for the capstone of the program. For this project we were able to create anything we wanted with any of the skills we had acquired. I chose to create a standing/sitting desk with MicroStation. My main inspiration for creating a standing sitting desk was the fact that I had to sit for the majority of the day - both at school and at my job. I also took inspiration from classic roll-top desks, which feature many small drawers and cubby holes. The majority of standing desks on the market are spartan, and tend to be little more than glorified adjustable tables. I also wanted to desk to feature spaces for cable management.
One of the final rendering of the project. This rending was chosen to lighting effects on the finished desk. It showcases the profile of the desk rather than the details.
This shows the desk in its sitting position.I wanted the desk to be a complete work space, not just a computer station.
The desk in its standing position. I did not design the standing mechanism myself, but found a kit online that could be used to create a DIY standing desk. I took the measurements from the kit and used this for the basis of my design. I wanted this desk to be a realistic design which could be fabricated if desired.
These two images reveal where the standing mechanism is housed.
